Two news reports (here and here) with some slightly conflicting information came out this morning about two students "playing with some chemicals" in their dorm. The two students were badly injured when they mixed "aluminum powder and rust powder". This concoction is called Thermite and burns at thousands of degrees. It can melt through armor plating. It can take down a building if set off in the right locations in the structural steel.
Maybe it was just a little fun and games making a big assed sparkler or maybe it was something else.
