More mandates, only this time it's from South Dakota. The State of South Dakota has just had a bill introduced to mandate ownership of a firearm by all citizens, legally eligible and over the age of 21, to own a firearm “sufficient to provide for their ordinary self-defense.”.
The measure is known as an act “to provide for an individual mandate to adult citizens to provide for the self defense of themselves and others.”
Rep. Hal Wick, R-Sioux Falls, is sponsoring the bill and knows it will be killed. But he said he is introducing it to prove a point that the federal health care reform mandate passed last year is unconstitutional.
“Do I or the other cosponsors believe that the State of South Dakota can require citizens to buy firearms? Of course not. But at the same time, we do not believe the federal government can order every citizen to buy health insurance,” Rep. Wick said.
Unlike the Federal Mandated purchase of health insurance, this bill, if passed at the State level, might actually have some teeth. The arguments for the Federal Mandate often cite automobile insurance as the precedent for requirement of purchasing insurance.
While the ownership and operation of an automobile in most states requires the purchase of liability insurance, ownership of the automobile itself is elective. You don't have to own an automobile.
The Federal Government's argument for the mandate cited the "Interstate Commerce Clause" in the Constitution as basis for authority to force individuals to purchase insurance. I find it personally humorous that the Federal government would point to this clause, especially since you can't purchase insurance on an interstate basis, and the government had no intent to allow it.
All of this to bring me to the fact that Rep. Wick of South Dakota may find that there is precedent which allows the mandate at a State level and his bill may just find a way to become law.
In 1982, the Kennesaw, GA City Council unanimously passed a law requiring heads of households to own at least one firearm with ammunition.
The ordinance states the gun law is needed to "protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants."
The law is still on the books and Kennesaw has one of the lowest crime rates in the country.
Clearly a state can mandate purchase of firearms, but not necessarily health insurance.
All of this may be moot, since a Federal Court in Florida handed down the decision yesterday that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is null and void due to the unconstitutionality of the individual mandate.

The List of Obamacare Waivers is Growing
If this 1.5 million people can "opt out" of Obamacare, why is it even neccessary to have it as a law? I thought this was going to mandantory? Notice on the list that the vast majority of waivers were given to labor unions, the same people that worked so hard to elect Obama in the first place.

Prudential joins the list of companies that are expecting big losses due to the new health care turd. AT&T, Verizon, John Deere, Catapillar, and pretty much any other "for profit" company are all on the list. Some have been called to testify before Congress about their projected losses, since Congress says they are going to save money, Congress is confused. I suppose that's because most congressmen have never had to produce anything to create wealth to use to meet a payroll. All they do is take from us, take a cut off the top for gov't employees and then redistribute the rest. (of course there is a little pilfering and fraud along the way, so very little actually goes to those in need)

A longtime rancher was killed on his Douglas-area property over the weekend, and neighbors worried that his homicide was connected to increasing border-related crime in the area.
The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office offered little information into the late-Saturday shooting death of 58-year-old Robert Krentz, whose family began the Krentz Ranch more than 100 years ago.
Krentz’s body was found on his land, which is about 35 miles northeast of Douglas, just before midnight Saturday, said Carol Capas, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office, aided by the U.S. Border Patrol, had no suspects Sunday and continued to follow leads, Capas said. She declined to comment on reports from neighbors and border activists that Krentz’s death was related to smuggling in the area.
Area residents said Krentz had no enemies, and they could think of no motive for his death other than the possibility it was related to what they called the growing level of crime in the area related to illegal immigrants and drug smugglers.
Tom Tancredo, a former U.S. representative from Colorado, was visiting ranchers near Douglas to discuss border issues when he heard of Krentz’s death.
Tancredo said he and Krentz were friends and that he was “a mild-mannered guy” who was known for providing illegal immigrants with food and water.
Krentz was murdered by the same people that the Obama administration wants to give amnesty.

In one of the most overlooked and under reported segments of the new "Health Care Act", the Federal Government has completely taken over the Student Loan business from private banks. They have now forced private companies out of the business of loaning money for college education. Let that sink in a minute.
The Federal Gov't will now be borrowing money from the Federal Reserve Bank at a very low interest rate, let's say 2.5% and then loan it to students at say 6.5%. The gov't will now make a 4% profit that will go into paying for health care for whomever, although that's not the important point here..
The point is that the Federal Gov't, in one fell swoop, effectively destroyed and confiscated an entire industry. What about the hundreds of thousands of people that this is going to put out of work starting July 1, 2010 when this goes into effect? The private bankers and their employees first, then the hardware store owner, grocery store clerk, etc... Anyone who did business with any of the funds generated by the loans or the interest it generated.Was there any mention of that aspect of this in the dinosaur media? Of course not.

This goes both ways, of course. My wife was driving in Atlanta on Friday with a bumper sticker that says "Obamanomics- Trickle Up Poverty" and was followed into a parking lot and then the other driver pulled up next to her and spit on her. I would have liked to have been with her when it happened, because I carry a Kimber .45, and would have had to defend her with it.
